Subject to the planning and assessment requirements of the Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA), Lend Lease is expecting to commence the project in late 2011.
The Premier Anna Bligh previously announced that the Yarrabilba community would become one of the state’s first “model cities” facilitated by the ULDA and eventually cover 2,012 hectares with an expected population of over 45,000 people. With the recent State Government declaration of Yarrabilba as an “Urban Development Area”, the ULDA has taken on responsibility for the planning and development assessment process for the project. The ULDA now has just 12 months (by October 2011) to complete a Development Scheme covering the whole Yarrabilba site. In the meantime, a recent approval of an “Early Release Area” indentified within the project for approximately 500 lots and initial retail, community and employment, means that initial development is likely to commence within the next few months.
Lend Lease received approval on 11 April, 2011 for its first stage development application from the Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA).
The development application was submitted under the ULDA`s Interim Land Use Plan for the Yarrabilba Urban Development Area. It covers the designated “Early Release Area” while the ULDA continues to prepare the Development Scheme for the entire site targeted for gazettal later this year.
The approved development application covers more than 80 hectares and includes approximately 500 residential lots, along with initial sites for retail, community, education, parkland and recreation facilities and land dedicated to employment-generating uses.
The first Yarrabilba neighbourhood is located in the north-west part of the site, adjacent to the intersection of Waterford-Tamborine Road and Camp Cable Road, Yarrabilba.
The Yarrabilba development team will continue to work closely with the ULDA, Logan City Council and other stakeholders throughout the proposed 30 year planning and development of the community.
