Australia’s First Environmental Business Cluster in Demand

More than 50 businesses have expressed interest in a proposed Environmental Business Cluster to be developed in Beaudesert.

Being developed by Delfin Lend Lease at its future development of Yarrabilba, the business precinct would be Australia’s first Environmental Business Cluster.

The Environmental Business Cluster will be a major business precinct catering to companies producing environmentally sustainable products, as well as office-based research and consulting groups.

Delfin Lend Lease’s Regional General Manager Queensland, Andrew Brimblecombe said the Expression of Interest issued in mid-August attracted interest from industries ranging from solar energy, to water technology, sustainable white goods and alternative fuel companies.

“Research commissioned by the Queensland Government has found that the environmental sector produced revenue of $1.3billion to the state in 2003/04,” said Mr Brimblecombe.

“Globally, the sector is growing at 12 per cent annually, and our expression of interest illustrates the high demand from industry.

“We have been thrilled with the response from businesses, specialising in environmentally-sustainable goods and services, who are interested in locating their head office, manufacturing, distribution or sales facilities at the Yarrabilba Environmental Business Cluster.

“Companies involved in the Environmental Business Cluster will be able to display their products, develop manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facilities, obtain commercial space and establish research facilities.

“Creating a unique business precinct is also predicted to bolster youth training and jobs for locals by providing long-term career opportunities.

“Experts in the field argue that the high level of fragmentation in the industry is limiting its profile and growth and that a central hub would act as a catalyst for the growth of the environmental goods and services industry both in Queensland and Australia.”

The proposed Yarrabilba community is situated on a 2,014-hectare site in the Beaudesert Shire. To be developed over a 30 year period, upon completion the community is expected to be home to 52,000 residents in 23,000 homes on 19,000 allotments.

Delfin Lend Lease is Australia’s largest developer of masterplanned communities with more than 20 projects across eight key population centres throughout Australia.
